Web Design Project Description
Who are MX Vice?
MX Vice started out as a hobby and side project for Burfield director James Burfield. Within its first year it started to grow quite quickly and 50 visitors a month quickly turned into 500 a day. Four years later MX Vice has, on average, 250,000 unique users a month and a social media reach that peaked at 11.1 million over seven days. Everything within MX Vice has been grown organically using the expertise of the Burfield Agency team. MX Vice are now in unknown territory growth wise, but they are following the strategy provided by Burfield.
Agency Requirements for MX Vice
The agency would need to not only advise and support, but it would also need to strategize and implement the vision interpreted from MX Vice. We are currently helping the MX Vice team with the following:
- Dedicated server hosting with Rackspace
- Website build and development
- Online digital marketing and on-site optimisation
- Social media
- Email newsletters
- PPC with Google Adwords
- Graphic design
- Branding and logo creation
- Exhibition design and build
- Videography & photography
MX Vice first started as a client with Burfield four years ago and their initial brief and website was a lot different to the one today. The brief submitted recently in October 2015 was for a site that currently operates with 250,000 visitors a month and needed recommendations on how to grow the audience further through features and a more up-to-date design and feel.
MX Vice also stated an issue they had was that visitors didn’t just come from the UK; they were now an international site with over 130,000 visitors from Europe and the USA. What could they offer these readers to make their experience more rewarding? Another big issue for MX Vice was they currently had more advertisers than advertising space and they felt they didn’t just want to have ‘space’, but create a platform that would see users engage with the advertisements.
The Burfield team, having grown as a business with this project, understood the requirements quickly and looked at introducing a ‘phased’ approach to bring in the changes required. With 83% of all traffic on a mobile, content priority was important along with how advertisers would get their product and brand recognised and engaged with. The Burfield team have spent time looking through pages and pages of data from tools such as Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Lucky Orange, Hitwise and other metric tools to understand what is working and what isn’t on the website. Coupled with bringing in visitors who currently use the site and asking them about what they like/dislike whilst at the same time recording how they use the website currently.
The Burfield team then produced a specification for the proposed new website, based on data, and followed our standard process to build the new MX Vice website. The site will have further phases rolled out every two months for personalisation and features, whilst constantly looking at the data and speaking to the user to evolve the website further. When a site is at this level and producing significant revenue it’s imperative to always listen and look at ways of constantly improving.
